Tiantaishan Fm
Type Locality and Naming
Northeast Hubei border to Henan. The Tiantaishan Fm was named by the Party of Regional Geological Survey, Hubei Bureau of Geology in 1973. The type section is from Daijiawan, Yingshan County, Hubei Province to Wangmaowu, Xinxian County, Henan Province. Lower-middle formation (2/4) in Hong'an Gr.
Synonym: (天台山组)
Lithology and Thickness
The Tiantaishan Fm is composed of greyish muscovite albite gneiss, microcline-albite gneiss, microcline albite leuco-leptite or leptite. There is green schist in the base. The top consists of graphite schist and muscovite quartz schist (or quartzite). Thickness varies from 1900 m to 4700 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
The base is in conformable contact with the underlying Huangmailing Fm.
Upper contact
The top is conformably overlain by the Qijiaoshan Fm.
Regional extent
Northeast Hubei border to Henan. The formation is distributed at Macheng, Dawu, Hong'an, Xiaogan, Huanpi, and Guangshui counties, Hubei Province, and south slope of Tongbai Mountain and Dabie Mountain.
